Esterbrook instructionsToday, I now eagerly await the arrival of the pens I found at auction on ebay. I purchase a Parker ’51′ and a Esterbrook Silver/Grey Fountain Pen and a mixed lot of a few others thrown in.

I expect I am going to be cleaning and restoring these myself and I will take the challenge as I feel this will be a fun project. I have picked up quite a few pointers on the pen forums and pen sites I have visited over the past few year since the fountain pen bug bit me.

I have to sent a word of thanks for lack of a “Better” word as when I was reading one of my favorite blog sites (searching4arcadia) the other day – He mentioned and wrote up a really nice history of the Parker ’51′ Pen. So, today while I sat with my brother trying to keep cool in the sweltering 92 Degree Heat with 52 Percent Humidity. (Whew way too hot for me and even his crazy kitty who usually is running around like a little mad man is stretched out asleep) We were searching ebay and found these nice set of pens for sale and the bidding stopped in only an hour and the bidding was only $20 – Hmm Time for my swift ebay savvy tips to complete the auction. I got the set of 6 pens for $35 Dollars and only $5 s/h. These six pens included:

1 – Esterbrook Silver/Grey Fountain Pen with 2556 Tip – Made in USA
1 – Parker “21″ Green Body with Silver Cap
1 – Parker “51″ Special Black Body with Silver Cap
1 – Eversharp Navy Body with Silver Cap 14K Tip
2 – Sheaffer Black Body with Black Cap – one has SF1 Tip; other has M1 Tip and body is imprinted with W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co.

All in good condition

About $6 dollars apiece. Not a bad deal I think – Now I must wait and see what arrives in the mail.

And tomorrow taking Allen’s Lead – I will post a nice little history report on the Esterbrook (The Everyman Pen).

Hey Alan!!

Wow! That was an excellent buy! That “51″ special is gonna be a bit different on the inside than the normal “51″, but it’s quite a good pen, even so. Take each one at a time, and learn about the pen’s issues before you try and fix them. The Parker may require a special tool to take it apart. But- the Esterbrooks are excellent. I’ve fixed one myself already- if the nib comes a bit wacko- you can get a new one at Pendemonium or any other place that sells ‘em. If you get them into good working condition and there are no serious flaws, the Esterbrooks will go for around $30/$35. The “51″ Special is approx. the same. Perhaps $35-$40. I’m unsure about the prices fo the Shaeffers (still don’t have one, but they look great), or about the “21″- also quite a cool pen. So, we at least know that you’ve got 35×3 there… that’s pretty cool! :)

Thanks for the kind reply, Alan, and please let us know how you go with these repairs!! [BTW, Pendemonium sells "Da Book" which is an excellent repair manual. There are some pen-specific sections and more general sections. Pretty decent book.- warning- they don't tell you it's a self-bound book... but it's a good one.] If you want me to give you more of a rundown of what’s in there, lemmie know.

Cheers!! Great Buy!

ps- Check out that s51- see how they say to test for leaks on FPN- I suspect that one is gonna be in working shape when it arrives!
